Obituary
Donald J. Figge, age 81, of Maple Lake, formerly of Annandale, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Hutchinson with his family at his side.
Funeral Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service, Tuesday, both at the church. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorials are preferred. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
Donald James Figge was born August 22, 1931 in St. Cloud to Daniel and Marjorie (Elsenpeter) Figge. He was a graduate of Annandale High School and he lived in the Annandale area his entire life. Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On November 20, 1954, Don married Judy Vajdic in Kansas City, MO; she preceded him in death on March 24, 1982. Don was then united in marriage to Shirley Nyholm Nilson on September 20, 1985 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale. Don worked at Figge Chevrolet and owned and operated Don's Used Cars; as well as working many other car sales jobs over the years. He also worked with his wife Shirley as a distributor for Herbalife International for over 20 years. He was a former member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake, a current member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale, and was a lifetime member of the Palmer Lake VFW in Brooklyn Center. He also formerly served as the Fourth of July Parade Chairman in Annandale, was a member of Annandale City Council and was a former Mayor of the City of Annandale.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children and their partners Margie & Larry Fieldseth of Annandale, Roberta & Fred Rupp of Sartell, Daniel & Diane Figge of Missoula, MT, Cathy & Doug Beckman of Annandale, Patrice Rothrock & Ken Hare of Bernville, PA, Susan Figge & Jeff Schultz of Fergus Falls, Julie & Tom Kiernan of Buffalo, Trisha & Scott Rollag of Monticello and Scott & Michelle Nilson of South Haven; son-in-law John Belan; daughter-in-law Heidi Figge; brother & his spouse Kenneth & Judy Figge of Buffalo; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law Sally Nyholm, John Raiche, Stanley Jr. & Frances Vajdic, Patricia & Mason Fleming and Margie Mullins; 22 grandchildren Sheloa, Brian, Pat, Sean, Janelle, Allison, Rachel, Bridget, Heather, Erik, Tiffany, Joshua, Cody, Samantha, Kelly, Allison, Matthew, Ben, Kelsey, Tanner, Laura and Tylor; 12 great grandchildren Gavin, Griffin, Bailey, Aidan, Maryn, Cameron, Carter, Hunter, Lenora, Luke, Allie and Adam. He is preceded in death by his first wife Judy Figge; parents Daniel & Marjorie Figge; son David Figge; daughter Susan Nilson Belan; grandson Brandon Beckman; brother George Ronald Figge; sister Marlene Raiche; parents-in-law Stan & Effie Vajdic and Carl A. & Florence Nyholm; and brother-in-law Carl R. Nyholm.
The pallbearers will be Cody Rothrock, Scott Nilson, Steve Figge, Brian Fieldseth and Patrick Leary. The urn bearers will be Cody Rothrock and Samantha Dominguez. Orma Lou Jacobsma and Janelle Johnson will provide the music for the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
