Obituary

Donald E. Dahnke, age 74, of South Haven died Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. David Doppenberg officiating. Interment will be in the Fair Haven Cemetery, Fair Haven Township, Stearns County.

Friends may call from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Annandale Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel with a prayer service at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.

Donald Eugene Dahnke was born September 20, 1928 at Fair Haven to Carl and Ruby (Alberg) Dahnke. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the occupation of Germany after WW II and during the Korean War. He married Verna M. Saukkola on January 13, 1951 in Kingston, MN. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he worked for Ewald Brothers, and later Leef Brothers, as a route man. After leaving route work, he worked in the agricultural industry for thirty years, as a sales rep.

Upon retirement, he worked part-time for Dingmann Funeral Care. He has lived on Lake Sylvia since 1995, previously living in White Bear Lake and Hutchinson.

He was a charter church council member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, MN, a member of Hutchinson American Legion Post #96, Annandale Lions Club, St. John's Lutheran Church Annandale, and St. John's Lutheran Church Council.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, paddle boat and pontoon rides, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Verna of South Haven; 3 children, Melinda McKay & friend Rod Gulbransen of Falcon Heights, Julie Wolfsteller & her husband, Jerry of Annandale, Don Dahnke & his wife, Linda of Bothell, WA; 4 grandchildren, Jay & Hanna Wolfsteller, Laura & Matthew Dahnke; sister, Marlys Dillon & her husband, Gene of Rush City; and many special nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, Jay and Hanna Wolfsteller, and Laura and Matt Dahnke.

The family asks that lasting memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
