Dennis Havemeier, age 72, of Cokato died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis of a stroke.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
Dennis Arthur Havemeier was born June 19, 1938 in New Ulm to Paul and Mary (Hengy) Havemeier. He was baptized July 28, 1938 in the Havemeier's home by Rev. A. J. Maas and later confirmed. He had various jobs one of which was trucking before helping his father on the family farm in Courtland for 7 years. During that time, Dennis was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Guetzkow on April 28, 1961 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hollywood, MN. Together, they lived in Green Isle for 20 years, Waverly for 8 years and finally settled in Cokato for the last 15 years. Dennis worked for 30 years as a welder for Advance Machines in Plymouth, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Montrose, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland.
Dennis was an outdoorsman; enjoying fishing, coon hunting and keeping an immaculate yard through gardening and landscaping. He also enjoyed building projects; over the years he has built everything from a fish house, church benches and even a three wheeler. Dennis was a giving man, always willing to help a neighbor. He enjoyed to dance, loved his family and friends and truly enjoyed his grandchildren and their athletic events.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters & their spouses, Tammy & Bret Lueders of Dassel and Connie & Dave Huber of LeSueur; six grandchildren, Tyler, Garret, and Pierce Lueders, Ryan and Amber Sunderman, and Caylee Huber; one great grandson and his favorite, Carter Sunderman; step-grandson, Ben Huber; four sisters & their spouses, Betty & Harris Buboltz of Hutchinson, Vercille & Dale Class of New Ulm, Burnett & Frank Pearse of New Ulm and Burnell & Eddie Osberg of Courtland; brother in law, Lester Shellum; sisters in law, Lorna, Imelda and Margaret Havemeier; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Havemeier; brothers, Paul Jr., Clarence, Jerome and Raymond Havemeier; and sister, Dorothy Shellum.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Ryan Sunderman, Amber Sunderman, Caylee Huber, Tyler Lueders, Garret Lueders and Pierce Lueders. Aaron Brown and Kathy Queck will provide the music for the service.
