Delmar C. Olson was born Dec. 4, 1916, in South Haven, Minnesota to Rinehart and Betty (Hoeft) Olson. He graduated from Annandale High School and attended the University of Minnesota in Aeronautical Engineering. He married Dorothy Kingstrom on June 29, 1941. During World War II, he served in the Air Force in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Okinawa.

Delmar lived in South Haven, Minneapolis, Richfield, Fort Snelling, Lake City, Annandale, and Mankato. During those years, he built four homes, his father-in-law's barn, a speedboat, camping trailers, an airplane, Grandfather clocks for his children's wedding gifts, furniture, a tree house for his grandchildren, and he helped with his children's houses, etc. He was extremely generous with his money and time. His children marveled that he was snow blowing the church parking lot at the age of 80.

Before he retired in 1975, he was in charge of the 21 square miles of buildings and grounds comprising Fort Snelling and the Minneapolis VA Hospital complex.

Del loved his family, and was devoted to his wife, his parents, and his children. He was a private plane pilot, and delighted in flying friends and family on excursions, such as taking his family to Texas in his Cessna 170. He enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides in his canoe, modern art, music, camping, woodworking, and singing of hymns. His mandolin lessons could be overheard at the Homestead Pickin' Parlor.

Delmar is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; son, LeRoy and his wife Becky of Mankato; daughter, Barbara and her husband John Force of Chanhassen; grandchildren, Spencer (Stacy) Olson, Annette (Lee) Krengel, Janelle (Gunars) Ogrins, and Jill (Paul) Perkins; three great-grandchildren, Noelle Olson, Luke Olson, and Jack Krengel; three brothers, Raymond (Marge) of Minneapolis, Maynard (Loretta) of New Hope, and Wesley (Shirley) of Shoreview; and sister's-in-law, Kay of New Hope and Clarice of Bovey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rinehart and Betty Olson; and two brothers, Floyd and Dale.

Pallbearers will be LeRoy Olson, Spencer Olson, John Force, Lee Krengel, Paul Perkins, and Gunars Ogrins. Sharon Planer, pianist provided the music for the service. Arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
