Obituary

Debra R. Franklin, age 67, of Annandale, died Monday, February 6, 2023, at her home under the care of hospice. Private family graveside services will be held. Debra Rose Dolezal was born February 19, 1955, in Redwood Falls, Minnesota to Frank and Leah (Hammerschmidt) Dolezal. As a young girl, Deb moved with her family to San Jose, California. During her teens years, they returned to Redwood Falls, and Deb graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1973. She was then united in marriage to Larry Marquardt. While Larry was in the service, they were stationed in Las Vegas. They were blessed with one daughter, Sarah. Deb and Larry later divorced and she returned to Minnesota. In 1981, Deb obtained her bachelor's degree in psychology from Southwest State University. Deb eventually moved to St. Louis, where she obtained her master's degree from Washington University. Deb also worked towards her PhD at the University of Missouri in St. Louis. As an advocate for victims or for those whose voice may not have not been heard, Deb formed a center for victims of torture in St. Louis. She continued to be an advocate in her role as the head of Child Protection Services of Western Kansas. Eventually, Deb returned to Minnesota and became a caregiver to her mother. In 2011, she moved to Annandale to be closer to her family. As a lifelong learner, Deb enjoyed doing research on various topics. In quieter times, she also enjoyed reading, and listening and playing music. Deb is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Shane) Patch of Annandale; 3 grandsons, Cooper, Cole, and Brodye; and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Nancy.
