Dean Ellis Mackereth, born February 14, 1922 in Kingston Township, Meeker County, Minnesota, the son of Bryan and Mae (Ellis) Mackereth, passed away November 21, 2005.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2005, at St. John`s Lutheran Church, Kimball with Rev. Dave Milz officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball, and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be the Kimball Cemetery.

Dean Ellis Mackereth graduated from Kimball High School in 1941, then farmed at the family farm before entering the U.S. Army in 1944, receiving his basic training at Camp Wolters, TX. He trained under General McArthur and served in the 43rd Infantry Division of the Motor Pool in the Philippines and Yokahama, Japan. He returned to Kimball in 1946 and continued farming. He was united in marriage to Betty Wenholz on March 25, 1950, in St. John`s Lutheran Church, rural Hinckley, Minnesota. He continued to farm the family farm living there 83 years. He also served 18 years as a rural mail carrier for both Kimball Routes 1 and 2.

He was a lifetime member of the Kimball American Legion Post #261, a member of Rural Letter Carriers, and was proud of his Lion`s Club Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He served two terms on the Kimball School Board and was a member of St. John`s Lutheran Church, where he held several offices. He enjoyed his family, farming, horses, classic cars, and traveling. Along with Betty, he spent twenty winters in Arizona where he enjoyed golf and friends.

Dean is survived by his wife, Betty of Kimball; five children, Charles (Colleen) Mackereth of Kimball, Sandra (Richard) Miller of Annandale; James (Lynn) Mackereth of Lompoc, CA, Gayle (Craig) VanNurden of Kimball, Julie (Roger) VanVleet of St. Cloud; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Marsella), Glenn (Shirley); sister, Doris (Orville) Nelson; brother-in-law, Lenous Dammann; sister-in-law, Corrine Demuth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Dammann; brother, Leslie; sister-in-law, Geri Mackereth and granddaughter, Tonya VanNurden.

The pallbearers will be Justin Miller, Travis VanNurden, Mitchell VanVleet, Ryan Mackereth, Alyssa Mackereth, and Kalvin Mackereth. The music for the service will be provided by Lori Rippentrop, organist, and Kathy English, soloist.
