Cyril J. Arnold, age 80, of Elysian, Minnesota, formerly of Janesville, died September 21, 2002 at his home on Lake Francis.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on September 25, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann`s Catholic Church, Janesville, MN with Fr. Glenn Frerichs and Fr. Clayton Haberman officiating. Interment was in St. Anne`s Catholic Cemetery, Kimball, MN.
Cyril Jerome Arnold was born on February 4, 1922 in Clear Lake, Minnesota to Jacob and Mary (Dingmann) Arnold. He graduated from Clear Lake High School. On October 20, 1942 he was united in marriage to Belva Stelten in Kimball, Minnesota. As a member of the U.S. Army during WW II, Cy served in an International Harvester formed battalion from 1943-1946. From 1940-1950 he was part owner in a family business that included farm implement, hardware and funeral service, in the towns of Clear Lake, Kimball, St. Cloud and Janesville, Minnesota. From 1947-1954 he served as mayor of Kimball. In 1954 he moved to Janesville, where he owned and operated Arnold Implement until selling the business to his son in 1986. His son, David, moved the business to North Mankato, where Cy had continued to work until just last year. Cy was a member of the Saint Ann`s Catholic Church in Janesville, where he served as Trustee, and had been active as a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. During his years in Janesville, Cy had served as a member of the Janesville School Board, past president of the Janesville Building Committee, past president of the Janesville Nursing Home Board, past member of the Janesville Rotary Club and Janesville Chamber of Commerce, and the H.U.D. Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife, Belva of Elysian; by three sons, Gary (and Charleen) Arnold of Waseca, Richard (and Carol) Arnold of Waseca, David (and MaryBeth) Arnold of North Mankato; and by one daughter, Barbara (and William) Palmer of Granite Bay, California; by 11 grandchildren, Nathan Arnold, Nicholas Arnold, Molly Arnold, Megan (and Kevin) Wright, Betsy Arnold, John Arnold, Jacob Arnold, Joshua Arnold, Matthew Arnold, Jennifer Palmer, and Mark Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by three brothers, Bernard, Philip, and Eugene.
The casket bearers were Paul, Mike, Jim, John, Pat, and Mark Arnold; and the music was provided by Cathy Dey, Roxanne Goodrich, and Joseph Kantz.
