Clifford C. Hammer, age 94, of Pipestone, formerly of Annandale and Albert Lea, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale, with Rev. Tom Heyd officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Sunday, at the funeral chapel.
Clifford Calmer Hammer was born to Raymond and Louella (Longshore) Hammer on October 21, 1920 in Albert Lea, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. From 1937 through 1938, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps on the Gunflint Trail. On June 17, 1939, he was united in marriage to BettyJean LaValley at the Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Following their marriage, they lived in Albert Lea and Clifford became employed at Wilson's Meat Packing Company in Albert Lea. On July 12, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Albert Lea and continued to work at the meat packing company. When he suffered a heart attack in 1967, Clifford retired at the age of 47. In 1970, he and his wife moved to Annandale, where they purchased a home on Pleasant Lake. At this time, they began spending the winter months in Mission, Texas and continued to do so for 35 years. In 2006, they moved into an apartment in Annandale. In 2010, they moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone to be near their family.
Clifford and his wife, BettyJean, were members of a Motorcycle Club and they enjoyed taking many cycle trips on their Harley throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Clifford enjoyed repairing large old clocks, refinishing furniture and caning chairs. He especially enjoyed fishing.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three children, Annette Walberg of Aitkin, Suzanne Anderson and her husband Andy of Florence, AZ and Charles Hammer and his wife Joyce of Pipestone; nine grandchildren Richard, Beth, Loren, Bruce, Tara, Tessa, Cherelle, Seth and Ashley; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife BettyJean; parents Raymond and Louella; two brothers William and Glen Hammer; son-in-law Roger Walberg and sister-in-law Doris Hammer.
The pallbearers will be Richard, Loren and Bruce Walberg, Beth Snell, Tara Casey, Tessa Anderson, Cherelle and Seth Hammer and Ashley Delahoyde. Military Honors will be provided by the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard and the Maple Lake American Legion & Maple Lake VFW Honor Guard. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
