Obituary

Catherine "Kitty" Winter, age 100 of Maple Lake, died Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Buffalo Hospital in Buffalo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake with Fr. Kevin Magner as the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Watkins. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, both at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Maple Lake.

Catherine Louise Klein was born January 23, 1923, in Watkins to George and Catherine (Erpelding) Klein. She grew up in Watkins. Kitty was united in marriage to Raynold Winter on September 24, 1946 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. They started their family in Watkins prior to moving to Maple Lake in 1958. Kitty sewed for Carlson Dolls in Maple Lake for many years. She was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, the St. Timothy CCW, the Central MN POW/MIA, Maple Lake American Legion Auxiliary, and The Ladybugs. Kitty enjoyed floral and vegetable gardening, sewing, bird watching, reading, and spending time outdoors. She loved any excuse to bring family together.

She is survived by her children, Sandy Brooks (Wally Winsor) of Champlin, Steve (Pat) Winter of Custer, SD, Scott (Jean) Winter of Grand Rapids, Sharon Fertig of Buffalo, and Suzanne Daniels of Robbinsdale; son-in-law, Rick Benson of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren, Marilyn (Randy) Blasus, Patty (Andrew) Hooks, Travis Winter, Craig (Jamie) Winter, Angie (Kevin) Conn, Katie (Dave) Wagner, Lindsay (Ashley) Verdeck, Jill (Jeff) McBride, Keith (Rachelle) Winter, Sheldon Fertig, Shane (Kristina) Fertig, Alexandra Daniels and Isabelle Daniels; 17 great-grandchildren, Matt (Holly) Knott, Carissa (Jordan) Treder, Gabriel, Lynn, Lincoln, Gibson, Natasha, Annaliese, Blake, and Josephine Winter, Logan and Kendra Conn, Calvin, Spencer, and Madelyn Graham, and Ryan and Madison Fertig; and great-great-granddaughters, Rachel, Kyra, and Cora Knott. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raynold Winter; an infant daughter, SueEllen Winter; daughter, Sheila Benson; son-in-law, Sheldon Fertig; great-grandchild, Samantha Knott; and 9 brothers and sisters.

The casket bearers will be Matt Knott, Travis Winter, Lindsay Verdeck, Keith Winter, Shane Fertig, and Isabelle Daniels. Krista Elsenpeter and Sarah Goelz will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
