Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Alex Becker will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, French Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Greater Lake Sylvia Association or the donor's choice.
Bruce Robert Gertgen was born on February 4, 1940, in Acton Township, Meeker County to Charles and Rubina (Hanson) Gertgen. He grew up in Howard Lake, where he graduated in 1958.
He furthered his education at Dunwoody Institute to be a pipefitter. Bruce embarked on a fulfilling career, proudly working with the Pipefitters Local 539. He embraced the challenges of his profession with vigor, finding joy in the work that not only provided for his family but also connected him with his colleagues.
On August 8, 1964, Bruce married the love of his life, Carole Tieva, in Watertown, South Dakota. Together, they built a loving home in Brooklyn Park, where they raised their family. In their retirement, Bruce and Carole cherished their time together in Arizona during the winter months. In 2004, they made a move to Carole's childhood cabin on Lake Sylvia, embracing the serenity and beauty of nature in their golden years.
Bruce proudly served in the United States Navy, stationed primarily in San Francisco, where he embraced the travel opportunities. He took great joy in traveling with Carole, visiting every U.S. state, while also relishing weekends at the family cabin and days spent on the lake. Bruce was an avid golfer who cherished time spent on the course. He shared an especially close bond with his brothers and found his greatest joy in time spent with his wife, children, and grandson.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Carole of Annandale; grandson, Alec (Skye) Royal of St. Augusta; brothers, LeRoy (Marie) of Nowthen and Larry (Lynn) of Prior Lake; and nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rubina; and children, Steven and Christin.
Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
