BettyJean Lorraine Hammer was born to Raymond Francis and Evaline Rose (Madsen) LaValley on December 10, 1921 in Albert Lea where she was raised and received her education.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.  On June 17, 1939, BettyJean was united in marriage to Clifford Hammer at the Methodist Church in Albert Lea.  Together they lived in Albert Lea and BettyJean stayed at home to raise their children.  Betty had a great love for antiques and she sold them out of her home while living in Albert Lea; her children never knew when they sat on a couch or chair if the same one would be there the next day.  In 1970, she and her husband moved to Annandale where they continued to sell her antiques.  During this time, they began spending the winter months in Mission, Texas and continued to do so for 35 years.  In 2006, they moved into an apartment in Annandale.  In November, 2010 she and her husband moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone to be near their family.  In March 2013 she became a resident at Good Samaritan Society, Pipestone where she passed away on Saturday March 8, 2014.

Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.  She and her husband were members of a motorcycle club; they enjoyed taking many cycle trips on their Harley throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.  Betty's greatest love was her children and all the grandchildren; she especially loved holding them as babies.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Clifford Hammer of Pipestone; her three children Annette Walberg of Aitkin, Suzanne Anderson & her husband Andy of Askov, and Charles Hammer & his wife Joyce of Pipestone; nine grandchildren Richard, Beth, Loren, Bruce, Tara, Tessa, Cherelle, Seth and Ashley; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters Marjorie Swenson of St. Michael, and Patricia Walberg of Minneapolis.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Roger Walberg; and brothers-in-law, John Walberg and Robert Swenson.

The pallbearers will be Seth Hammer, Ryan Delahoyde, Richard Walberg, Loren Walberg, Tessa Anderson and Cassondra Casey.  Orma Lou Jacobsma will provide the music for the service.  Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
