Mr. Bernard P. Kalway, age 80, of Maple Lake died Friday, May 9, 2003 at home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Maple Lake with Rev. Steven King officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. There will be a prayer service 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Bernard Paul Kalway was born December 21, 1922 in Maple Lake to Bernard Peter and Anna B. (Carriveau) Kalway. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake, and attended Maple Lake Public School. He served in the Army Air Force during WW II. On June 28, 1947 he married Eileen M. Peterson in Chisago City. Bernard was a machine maintenance worker and built precision molds for Anchor Block, North St. Paul for 33 years; retiring in 1985. He was a 50-year member of local #132. He lived in Forest Lake and St. Paul before moving back to Maple Lake in 1985 at which time he and his wife spent the winter months in Mesa, AZ. Bernard was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Maple Lake American Legion Post #131, and a lifetime member of the Maple Lake VFW Post #7664. He loved his family, church, woodworking, and fishing.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Eileen of Maple Lake; sons, Robert of Oakdale, Keith of St. Paul; daughters, Shirley Johnston of Wyoming, Janet (Douglas) Wyman of Cottage Grove; sisters, Doris (Ray) Angell of Monticello, Leone Berthiaume of Waverly, Lorraine Anastasian of Maricopa, AZ; brothers, Raymond (Margaret) of Maple Lake, Francis of Roswell, NM; sister in law, Irene Kalway of Maple Lake; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His parents, a brother, George, and a sister, Mary Engesser preceded him in death.
