Obituary

Bernard E. "Barney" Durnin, age 82 of Annandale died Monday, February 7, 2011 at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale.  Fr. Victor Valencia will be the Celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Bernard Edward "Barney" Durnin was born August 6, 1928 in St. Cloud to Francis and Edna (Connelly) Durnin.  He was united in marriage to Doris Goldthorpe on December 31, 1949 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud.  Barney served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy.  He worked as a truck driver for 40 years with Anderson Trucking in St. Cloud.  Barney was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, the Maple Lake VFW Post 7664, and a former member of the St. Cloud VFW Post 4847.  He enjoyed raising horses in his younger years, gardening, woodworking, hunting for pheasants and grouse and spending time in the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; children & their spouses, Kathy & Steve Roos of Kingston, Virginia Howard & significant other, Steve Jensen of Annandale, Teresa Carlson of Annandale, Tom & Dellie Durnin of Annandale and Mary & Steven Westerberg of Crystal; sisters, Patty Emerson of St. Cloud and Donna Mae Roche of Denver, CO; ten grandchildren, Jason and Marc Howard, Jeremy (Amy) Carlson, Adam (Mindy) Carlson, Ryan Carlson, Anne and Stephanie Roos, Alison (Noah) Fieldseth, Amanda and Todd Durnin; and six great grandchildren, Ashleigh, Brook, Kylie, Connor, Dean and Stephen.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Edna, sister, Hazel Backhus, and great granddaughter, Jewely Anamarie Howard.

Pallbearers will be Jason Howard, Jeremy Carlson, Adam Carlson, Ryan Carlson, Todd Durnin, Stephanie Roos, Alison Fieldseth and Amanda Durnin. St. Ignatius Music Ministry will provide the music for the service.  Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
