Bernard (Ben) Dircks, age 92, of 9000 Hart Ave NW, Maple Lake died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Maple Lake. Burial will follow in St. Timothy's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a Prayer Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Ben was born January 29, 1915 to Jerry and Mary (Hesse) Dircks in Corinna Township, Wright County on the same farmstead he lived most of his life. He worked for Logeais Oil in Annandale and in 1937 Ben and his brother Ed rented the Coombs farm one year and then bought the Dircks farm and farmed until Ben left for military service in 1941. He was in the Army Infantry during WWII serving in Ireland, Africa and Italy. Ben returned to Minnesota and worked at the Grain Belt Brewery in Minneapolis. Ben married Mary Vealitzek on May 20, 1947 in Buffalo and in 1949 they bought his parents farm, returning to Maple Lake. He also worked 10 years for L.C. Block, Annandale. Ben was a member of St. Timothy's Church and Father O'Brien's Council Knights of Columbus #3613. He enjoyed woodworking and card playing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Maple Lake; children & their spouses, Richard & Kay Dircks of Murrietta, CA, Rosemary & Curt Knudson of Pinckney, MI, Donna & Dennis Wurm of Monticello, Thomas & Barb Dircks of Monticello; sister, Luella Nelson of Annandale; sister in law, Mildred Dircks of Maple Lake; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 7 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers & sisters, Eleanor Aretz, Francis, Adeline Bongard, Edwin, Lillian Logeais, Alice O'Loughlin, Harold, and Emily Lambert.
The music for the service will be provided by St. Timothy's Resurrection Choir, Marge Pavlik organist. The pallbearers will be Laurie, Teresa, & Sandra Dircks, Tracy Wurm, Denny Wurm Jr., David & Amanda Knudson, and Lynn Horneber. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
