Barbara Ann Sharlene Compton Johnson left us the evening of August 27, 2007 at her home on Clearwater Lake after a short but courageous battle with stomach cancer. She was lovingly cared for in her final weeks by her children, Harold of Red Wing, MN and Heidi of Savage, MN, and younger sisters, Karen (Compton) and Judy (Grega), both neighbors on Barb`s shoreline.
Barb was born July 14, 1938 on a kitchen table in Cokato, MN to Verlund `Buck` (d. `93) and Mabel (Nelson d. `02) Compton. Raised in North Minneapolis, she built friendships that are still treasured today. Married to Van Johnson in 1959, they raised two children, Harold (Cherie) and Heidi (Tom) Brandt, in Bloomington, MN and at the lake. She made her career largely in the secretarial field. She later divorced, but was on the friendliest of terms with her `ex`. A devoted hockey and dance grandma, and snowmobile racing fan, Barb will be missed beyond words by her six grandchildren: Mackenzie (13), Lexi (11), Reygan (9), Ian (6), Carson (4), and Colin (3). She treasured her extended family of numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2007 at Our Saviour`s Lutheran Church, French Lake. Burial will follow at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale, and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday.
She joins her grandparents, her mom and dad, Uncle Del, brother-in-law Tom, and father-in-law Harold, all living on in spirit on the shores of Clearwater Lake.
