Arlayne Elizabeth Hunt was born Feb 23, 1924 in South Haven, MN to the late Alex and Ida (Schmidt) Marquardt.  A 1942 gradate of Annandale High School; Arlayne spent most of her life nearby except for one year in Pensacola, FL.   On August 26, 1949, Arlayne married Charles E. Hunt. They established a home and farmed south of Kimball.  In 1957, they moved to St Nicholas to raise crops, cows and kids. In 1966, they bought a farm outside of Fair Haven on Hunt Road and lived there until they moved to assisted living in March 2010.
Arlayne enrolled at St Cloud Normal School (now known as St. Cloud State University) in 1943. After a year of college, she was granted a special teaching license due to a desperate teacher shortage because of the war. She taught in a one room school house for three years, grades 1 - 8. Her salary was $75 a month and her duties included cleaning the school, drawing water and chopping wood.  Her next teaching job was the Fair Haven School, grades 1 - 4 at a monthly salary of $125 without the cleaning and chopping duties. She taught at Fair Haven for a year. Later, two of her students' sons would marry her daughters.  Many years later, after her children were all in school, Arlayne recaptured her teaching dream by providing one-on-one and small group mentoring for students in the Kimball Area Schools. She was named "Outstanding Lay Person in Education" in 1980.
After retiring from the school system, Arlayne could be found telling her favorite story, The Giving Tree, to many of the visitors at The Twin Barn Farm.  On several occasions Annandale's Pioneer Park's one-room school house was filled with her grandchildren as she held school for a day.   She often hosted afternoon 'teas' of root beer and goodies for her grandchildren followed by an art lessons or scavenge hunts.

Arlayne loved the Arts: acting, writing, painting, creating and performing; in fact, she gave her first performance at age three.  She served as a 4-H leader for many years providing her children with many opportunities to grow and lead.  She wrote and directed many of their Share-the-Fun skits and provided creative ideas for their booths and demonstrations.  She received the Gold Clover award in 1976 for her leadership; as well as the "Friend of 4-H" award in 1986.  She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed reading her bible and was an active member of her church. As a nature lover, she enjoyed walks in the woods, gardening and she loved birds. Arlayne was a loving wife, a friend to so many, a wonderful mom, an amazing grandmother and will be missed by many!

She is survived by sons Charles (Laurie), Michael, and James (Lori) Hunt – all from South Haven; daughters Karen Nelson of The Villages, FL, Charlayne (Gary) Stumm of Maple Grove, Rebecca (Rudy) Maurer of Good Thunder, Kathryn (Kurt) Eisenbraun of South Haven and Jacquelyn Sorensen of Osakis; daughter-in-law Maryln Hunt of South Haven; as well as 28 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.  Arlayne is preceded in death by Charles Hunt her husband of 62 years, brother James  Marquardt, sister Shirley Wills, son Richard Joseph Hunt, daughter-in-law Lanette Hunt and son-in-law Dave Nelson.

Pallbearers will be David, Chris & Jeff Hunt, Mike Stumm, Rudy Maurer and Preston Fischer.  The honorary pallbearers will be Chuck, Karl & Cameron Hunt and Jesse Sorensen.  The music for the service will be provided by Frosty Schiefelbein, organist and the St. Anne's Choir.  Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Kimball.
