Anna Claire Smith was born in Red Wing, Minnesota, to LeRoy and Monica Eichinger on June 3, 1942. She graduated high school from Our Lady of Peace in St. Paul.
Anna married her first husband, Melvin Mathies, on January 25, 1964. They moved to Watkins, where they raised their family before moving to Kimball in 1986. They shared many loving years together until Melvin's passing in 1999. She later married Samuel Smith on September 23, 2006, and they remained together until his passing in 2020.
Anna attended beautician school and went on to own and operate her own hair salon from home before establishing Them Hair Stylists in St. Cloud. She also made significant contributions at JB Liquor for over 15 years and managed Oak Place Apartments in Kimball for nearly 40 years, becoming a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. In her leisure time, she was an avid sewer and crocheter, finding joy in her crafts. She also loved her trips to the casino, quick stops at the Dairy Queen, and traveling with family.
She is survived by her children, Cindy (Ron) Krueger and Margaret (Tom) Kotula, both of Sauk Rapids; daughter-in-law, Peggy Mathies of Watkins; grandchildren, Nathaniel Uphus and Benjamin Kotula; six step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Mark Eichinger, Rita Stai, Doug Eichinger, and Mary (Vernon) Mathies; sister-in-law, Mary Eichinger; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Monica; her first husband, Melvin Mathies; her second husband, Samuel Smith; son, Matthew Mathies; brothers, Greg and Joseph Eichinger; and one niece, and four nephews.
Tom Kotula, Ron Krueger, Benjamin Kotula, Nathaniel Uphus, and Andy Krueger will serve as urn bearers. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Kimball.
