Obituary

Allan E. "Zip" Zipoy, age 76 of Kimball died Friday, July 16, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kimball. Rev. David Milz will officiate and burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, both at the church. A prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church of Kimball.

Allan Edward Zipoy was born May 2, 1934 in Grand Forks, ND to Edward and Caroline (Novak) Zipoy. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis with the class of 1953. He served his country as a jet airplane mechanic in the U.S. Navy during the end of the Korean War. He served on the USS Ranger and the USS Hornet. On July 14, 1956, Zip was married to Shirley Marohn at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Together, they own and operate Zip's Diesel Injection Service in St. Augusta, which they founded in 1976.

In his younger years, Zip enjoyed water and down hill skiing. He loved traveling and hunting up north. Zip enjoyed machinery, inventing, and finding new and creative ways to fix and make things better. His favorite place was the cabin, especially when he was sharing it with his grandchildren. Zip had a big heart and loved to socialize; he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; 2 sons and their wives, Tim & Susan and Tom & Sarah, all of Kimball; 5 grandchildren, Hannah, Theodore, John, Benjamin and Julia.

Pallbearers will be Tim Zipoy, Tom Zipoy, Mark Jansky, Todd Fruechte, Mike Westin, Dan Karpinski, Stan Marohn and Allen Love. Honorary pallbearers will be his five grandchildren. Hannah Zipoy, Lori Rippentrop and Bud Jay will provide the music for the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Kimball American Legion Post 261 and the Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Kimball.
