Alida M. Gehrke, age 88, of Sauk Rapids formerly of South Haven died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fair Haven with Rev. Don Wilke officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel, 325 11th Street N, Sauk Rapids and at the Church one hour prior to services. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Friday. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale and memorials are preferred to LCMS Minnesota North Missions.
Alida Margaret Gehrke was born September 5, 1924 at Scotland, SD to Hans and Emma (Einerson) Johnson and was Baptized & Confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church near Menno, SD. During WW II she worked at the bomb assembly plant in Mead, NE. She married Ludwig J. Gehrke on October 14, 1953 at Yankton, SD and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1999. Along with her husband she farmed and was a homemaker & 4-H Leader. Alida was a foster grandparent at Annandale & Kimball Schools and then worked for Headstart in Sartell. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Community and a former member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the organist for 30 years, and a Sunday School Teacher for 27 years.
She is survived by children Joan (Bruce) Goetteman of Carver, Cheryl (Bill) Rightsell of Suwanee, GA, Barbara (Douglas) Hertling of St. Cloud, David (Trish) Gehrke of Denver, CO, step son Layton (Marian) Gehrke of St. Peter, sisters & brother Luella Olson of Lakeville, Mavis (Orville) Boekhoff of Sioux Falls, SD, Elmer (Janice) Johnson of Yankton, SD, Alice (LaVern) Aisenbrey of Olivet, SD, Fay Simek of Yankton, SD, 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister Elsie Baker, and brother George Johnson.
The pallbearers will be Shari Hubred, Dan Baker, Kathy Yeager Williams, Joey Morey, Robert Gehrke, Brian Simek, Charles & Douglas Kersten.
