Obituary

Alice E. Hoikka, age 91, of Annandale died Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Annandale Care Center.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at First Apostolic Lutheran Church, Cokato with Rev. Fred Halonen officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, French Lake Township, Wright County.
Alice Estella Hoikka was born June 14, 1911 in Cokato to Fred and Anna (Hurula) Nelson. She married Jacob W. Hoikka July 11, 1942 in Cokato and together they farmed south of Annandale for many years. Jacob preceded Alice in death on August 16, 2002. Alice was a homemaker and also taught for many years in several country schools in the Annandale and Cokato area. In addition she also was a Teacher`s Aide at Bendix Elementary School, and tutored numerous children in her home. She was a member of First Apostolic Lutheran Church, Cokato and was active in the Finnish Historical Society. Alice loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed entertaining relatives and friends in her home. She was an avid letter writer, and found time to create beautiful quilts. She also made the best Finnish Flat Bread in Wright County.
Alice is survived by sons, Jerry (Patsy) Hoikka of Hutchinson, Lester (Cynthia Kurkowski) Hoikka of Annandale; daughter, Carol (Ron) Walker of Custer, SD; sisters, Dorothy Lampi of Annandale, Mildred Nelson of Annandale, Shirley (Glen) Tyni of Van Nuys, CA; brother, Donald (Bertha) Nelson of Cokato; eight grandchildren & their spouses, Kristen (Scott) Pritchard, Susan (Brent) Wagner, Brad (Sarah) Hoikka, Stephanie Hoikka, Adam Walker, Ethan Walker, Anna Walker, Travis Kurkowski; four great grandchildren, Julia and Elise Pritchard, Jacob and Joshua Wagner. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Mabel Compton; brothers, Ralph, Carl, and Harry Nelson.
The pallbearers were grandchildren and their spouses. The organist for the funeral was Ruth Ann Morris.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale, Minnesota.
