Obituary

Alice I. Root, age 87, of Kingston died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Meeker Memorial Hospital, Litchfield.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Kimball United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Felska and Rev. Mike Nelson officiating.  Interment will follow at Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and at the church one hour prior to services.  There will be prayer service 7 p.m. Friday.  Memorials are preferred to the Kimball United Methodist Church.

Alice Ida Root was born January 10, 1926 in Kimball to August Carl and Anna Louise (Mielke) Hoeft.  She was baptized by Rev. Parrish at the Kimball United Methodist Church and attended Kimball Schools graduating in 1944.  She then attended secretarial school in Minneapolis after which she worked at Amluxen's and later Washburn-Crosby Company.  Alice married Ted Root on November 27, 1947 at the Kimball United Methodist Church and then lived on their farm in Kingston Township, Meeker County that was purchased from Ted's parents.  She was very active in her community having been a 4-H Leader, cub scout den mother, charter member of Johnson-Kelly Legion Post 483 Auxiliary, and for many years gave piano lessons in her home.  Alice was also active in her adopted church, Redeemer Lutheran of Kingston where she was the organist for many years, pianist for special services, & choir member; she & Ted were often delegates to various church conventions whether the church was in the Suomi Synod, LCA, or ELCA.  She was loved by many; Blessed be her memory.

Alice is survived by her two children & their spouses Anne & Ron Darsow of Otsego, Ned & Barb Root of Kimball, five grandsons Travis (Lisa) Ingebrigtson of Flower Mound, TX, Jacob (Sara) Ingebrigtson of St. Paul, Christopher Root (Maggie Hake) of Philadelphia, PA, Stephen Root (Sydney Tolchinsky) of Flagstaff, AZ, Daniel (Rachel) Root of St. Paul, four great grandchildren Ashley, Zachary, Tyler & Lucas Ingebrigtson, sister Luella Nelson of Cosmos, four step-grandchildren, eight step-greatgrandchildren, four sisters in law, and many nieces & nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted in 2008, still-born son in 1952, grandson Nathan in 1981, brothers Andrew, Erwin, Martin & Carlos, and sisters Helen Olson-Laitinen, Evelyn Abbott & Beatrice Lee.

The urn bearers will be Avery & Kaitlyn Root and the music for the service will be provided by Barb & Lee Olson and Gayle Gunnerson.  The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
