"So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart" Psalm 90:12. Alice Geraldine Thompson was born October 6, 1917 in Willmar, Minnesota to Gerald and Amy (Peterson) Brandt, the sixth of eleven children. Alice outlived all but one, her brother, Wallace. The Brandt family resided on the Peterson homestead near Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Tripolis Lutheran Church, just a quarter mile away, nurtured her faith and encouraged her music and involvement in caring for people and community. On September 25, 1937 Alice was united in marriage to Newman Ole Thompson in Willmar. To this union were born three sons, Paul and David, who have preceded Alice in death and Byron. Through the loss of loved ones, Alice lived to celebrate the births of 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Always thankful, she enjoyed visits and letters from them and always wanted to know of their lives. Alice gave herself to friendships, homemaking, gardening, working as a bookkeeper and serving as administrator at Kimball and Annandale schools. Her work always was shaped by her commitment to others; she loved people and was much loved in return. Faith led her in many directions; she refused to be stuck in old ways and forms. She read and studied and was respected as intelligent, wise and caring.
Alice is survived by her son, Byron (Kathy) of Lakeville; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brother, Wallace (Corinne) Brandt of Raymond; and nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newman, sons, Paul and David, brothers, Reynold, Harold, Everett, Marvin, Burton, and Willard Brandt, and sisters, Gladys Bjornberg, Lulu Mae Erickson, and Helen Brandt.
Julie Jacques, Sara Thompson, David Thompson, Chris Thompson, Alison Schmitz, Amy Thompson, Emma Thompson and Cole Thompson will serve as pallbearers with Alice's Great Grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers. Orma Lou Jacobsma will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
