Mr. Adelbert F. Compton, age 91, of Annandale died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at the Annandale Care Center where he had been a resident the past 4 years.
Funeral services were held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale with Rev. Scott Jakel officiating. Burial followed in Sylvan Cemetery, Middleville Township, Wright County.
Del was born December 16, 1910 at Smith Lake to William and Harriet (Rice) Compton. He married Frieda Dittel on April 11, 1931 in Buffalo and they resided in Minneapolis. He served his Country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Twin City Ordnance, Department of Defense for 26 years, retiring in 1971. He and Frieda enjoyed traveling, wintered in Apache Junction, AZ and summered at their Clearwater Lake home. Del had many interests and hobbies; he raced horses and played accordion and keyboards in bands during his younger years. He later raced hydroplane boats and belonged to a four-wheel drive vehicle club. Del loved the desert mountains of Arizona, the lakes of Minnesota, hunting, fishing, and photography. He also was a local historian and quite a storyteller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda on May 24, 1988, brother, Verlund `Buck` Compton, sisters, Delores `Doris` Tholen, Alice Hessel, and Marcella Oliver. He is survived by his loving nieces, Barbara Johnson and Judy Grega of Annandale, Karen Compton of Burbank, CA, nephew, Bob Dittel of Lake Elmo and many other relatives and friends.
The pallbearers were Harold Johnson, Bryan & Kevin Grega, Eric Engh, Bob & Gordy Dittel. Music was provided by Bob Dittel, soloist and Orma Lou Jacobsma, pianist.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale, Minnesota.
