Simon G. Dykhuizen, age 87, of Silver Creek died on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Annandale Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silver Creek with Pastor Norm Hanan officiating. Burial will follow at Corinna Cemetery in Corinna Township. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Simon Gerald Dykhuizen was born May 9, 1931 at the farm home 1 1/2 miles west of Silver Creek, Minnesota, Wright County to Simon "Sam" and Clara (Rotsolk) Dykhuizen. He was baptized the 7th of June, 1931 by Pastor Arnold Cloeter. Sponsors were Alma Rotsolk and Harold Klemz. Simon attended Sunday School at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Silver Creek, and confirmation instruction; he was confirmed in a class of four by Pastor Waldmar Lemke on Palm Sunday, March 25, 1945. He attended grade school District #16 near Silver Creek and was privileged in the fall of 1944 to attend 8th grade in the newly opened Zion and Immanuel Lutheran School with Edward Bernthal the teacher, graduating June 20, 1945. In the fall of 1945, he entered Annandale High School and graduated June 2, 1949 in a class of fifty-two. His father being ill with Parkinson's disease, Simon stayed on the farm farming. His father, Sam, passed away May 5, 1976 and Mother (Clara) February 27, 1980. The family farm became a century farm September 25, 1986. Simon's grandfather, William Rotsolk, had purchased it in 1886.

Simon loved flowers and always had many beautiful ones in bloom around the yard and in the house. Although he was an only child and never married, he had many friends. He served his church, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Silver Creek as Building Fund Treasurer for 17 1/2 years, General Treasurer 1978-79 and again 1984-85, and Financial Secretary 1986-87. After he retired from farming and rented out the land, Simon went to work through the Green Thumb Program on May 1, 1989, being placed at the Buffalo Hospital as groundsman. He began work December 8, 1989 at Sunny Fresh Foods, Monticello and retired from there October 9, 1998. Simon became a volunteer driver for Wright County July 3, 1997 and continued to provide this service until January 31, 2013 after driving more than 75,500 miles and providing over 3,100 hours of his time.

Survivors include many cousins and a host of friends.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center Dr., St. Louis, MO 63141. The casket bearers will be Will and Wilbur Theyson, Andrew Gordon, Chris Klein, Donald DeBoer and Steve Betzler. Rev. Ken Tatkenhorst will provide the music for the service.
