Sarah "Sally" Custer Obituary

Sarah “Sally” A. Custer, age 87, of Annandale, formerly of Lakeville, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Annandale Care Center knowing she was deeply loved.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. John Meyer as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. Private burial will be held at All Saints Cemetery in Lakeville. Memorials may be given to the Angel Fund at the Annandale Schools or to the Make A Wish Foundation in Sally’s honor.

Sarah Ann Anderson was born November 29, 1931 at St. Barnabus Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Eleanore and Arnold Anderson. At a very young age, Eleanore and Arnold divorced, and Emmet Wagner became her stepdad; officially adopted by Emmet in February 1960. Her devotion as a wife and mom began in 1952 when she married Allen Slette. She lived in New Market, Lakeville, and Annandale over her lifetime. Sally was united in marriage to Wayne Custer in Lakeville in June of 1988. They remained in Lakeville while they finished out their jobs at Stampings of Minnesota. They then retired to Annandale where she and Wayne enjoyed many years on Lake Sylvia hosting family gatherings and lake activities. We remember Sally as a very hard worker who worked as a foster grandparent in the Annandale Schools until age 85, a huge fan for her children and grandchildren, a talented singer, Women’s VFW Auxiliary member, volunteer extraordinaire, a great cook, a strong supporter of Annandale athletics, and someone who made friends everywhere she went. She continued to give throughout her life whether it was for kids or seniors.

Loved by all and touching many hearts, Sally leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Wayne of Annandale; sons, Greg Slette of Farmington, Bob (Jody) Slette of Waconia, Steve Slette of Moose Lake; daughter, Sandee (Gary) Woessner of Ham Lake; stepchildren, Kim (Jim) Dresselhaus of Hastings, Kevin (Karen) Custer of Elko, and Kurt of Farmington; grandchildren, Cory Davis, Alison Rhodes, Lynnea Slette, Jennifer and Dave Dresselhaus, Erin and Kris Custer, and Gunnar Slette; and 6 great-grandchildren. Now holding hands in heaven with her daughter, Suzanne; sister, Jeanne; parents, Emmet and Eleanore; and daughter-in-law, Dana. She can continue to give hugs and smiles to everyone she encounters.

Give a kid, grandkid, our loved one a hug today and every day as a symbol of Grandma Sally’s legacy!

Sally’s family would like to thank the special friends, Susie and Terry Fobbe, Don and Punky Berg, the staff at ACC and the staff at the Annandale Schools. Your support throughout Mom’s ups and downs will always be remembered.

Sally's grandkids will serve as urn bearers. Louisa Nuehring and St. Ignatius Music Ministry will provide music for the service.
