Sandra Lee (Keto) Meehan

May 23, 1938 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Sandra L. Meehan, age 79, of Annandale, formerly of New York City, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Annandale Care Center.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery, near French Lake.

Sandra Lee Meehan was born May 23, 1938 to John and Vera (Jokinen) Keto in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sandi grew up in Minneapolis where she graduated from West High School. She spent every summer of her childhood at their lake place on Lake Sylvia. Following her graduation, Sandi moved to Kentucky where she was hired as a dancer in a dancing ensemble. Through dance, many opportunities and lifelong friendships came Sandi’s way including the opportunity to dance in Rio de Janeiro. Sandi then moved to New York City, where she continued her career as a dancer and performer. In the early 1960s, Sandi and some girlfriends set out for Chicago to apply at the Playboy Club. She was hired and worked as a hostess at the Chicago club, and then returned to New York City where she continued to work at the Playboy Club in NYC. While living in New York, Sandi married entertainer, Danny Meehan, who had been pursuing her since Chicago. The following year, Sandi’s greatest accomplishment, her daughter, Kelly Colleen was born. As a family, they traveled the world, while Danny performed in Broadway shows, clubs, and TV. Her daughter Kelly performed at one of his venues, The Bitter End years later. After Danny’s death in 1978, Sandi lived in NYC and the Hamptons, eventually moving to California, where she met her future husband, Al Tanenbaum. They returned to New York City and Al died shortly after. Sandi then faced her most trying time when her daughter Kelly was diagnosed with cancer. After the tragic death of her daughter Kelly in1995, Sandi was still able to find moments to laugh and continue on with her life. She then moved to Florida, where she met her longtime partner, Mike Young. They spent many wonderful years together living in NYC, the Hamptons, Alabama, and Georgia, before returning to Florida. After Mike’s death, she returned to her home state of Minnesota, due to her failing health and to be closer to her family. While Sandi lived a fabulous life, it was also filled with much heartache. Despite her hardships, Sandi will be remembered for her generous, welcoming, and charismatic personality, her incredible sense of humor, and her eye-catching looks. If she loved you, she would do anything for you.  Her daughter was her life’s passion. She lovingly welcomed Kelly’s friends in as her own and became a second mother to many of them. One of her daughters childhood friends described her perfectly,”Spirited, funny, warm, fierce—a true force.”

Dancing always remained a passion of hers, as well as painting, horseraces, real estate and traveling. She was not shy to hop in her car and simply drive, or board a plane or ship to see the world with a Coke in her hand and Hershey bars in her purse.

Sandi is survived by her sisters, Shirley (Norbert) Cody-Woitas of Annandale and Janet Sarles of Scroggins, TX; sister-in-law, Janice Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, and numerous dear, dear friends going back to her youth. Sandi was preceded in death by her daughter Kelly Meehan, husbands Danny Meehan and Al Tanenbaum, partner Michael Young, parents John and Vera Keto, brother Robert Keto, and sister Patricia Rose.
