Merlin “Merle” Boberg, of Chaska, and former resident of Maple Lake and Savage, passed away on June 10, 2018 the day after celebrating his 87th birthday with his family. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
​Family and friends will gather on Friday, June 22, 2018, from 9:30-10:40 am to celebrate Merle’s life at Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake. An 11:00 Mass will follow at the Church of St. Timothy. Private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Merle grew up on a farm in Arcadia, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He and Donna were married in 1955 and raised their five daughters in Savage, MN. Upon retirement from Northwest Airlines, he and Donna moved to Maple Lake where they enjoyed life on the lake and their winters in Mesa, AZ. His fondest memories included fishing trips to Alaska with his Northwest buddies, growing his vegetable garden, traveling across the country in their RV, hosting family and friends at the lake, and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Merle was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughters: Karen (Steve) Schaub, Debbie (Scott) Grieve, Kathy (Glenn) Morse, Denise (Rick) Schroeder, and Renee (Mark) Dawson; 11 grandchildren: Travis, Ryan, Tyler, Christopher, Matthew, Alec, Jason, Heather, Taylor, Trent, and Tara; 6 great-grandchildren: Emma, Hunter, Lily, Mason, Nolan, and Dana.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Helena (Rohn) Boberg; wife Donna (Jereczek); sisters Bernadine Walch and Marjorie Boberg; and brothers Norman, Ralph, and Alden Boberg.
Merle’s grandsons and granddaughters will serve as urnbearers and gift bearers. Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox, Anne Pribyl and Sarah Goeltz will provide the beautiful music for the Mass.
