Lorraine V. Johnson, age 96, of Annandale, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the Annandale Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. David Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Lorraine Vivian Johnson was born May 15, 1923 to Martin and Selma (Lidberg) Martinson. Lorraine grew up in Annandale where she also graduated with the Class of 1941. Lorraine then furthered her education, becoming a registered nurse in 1945. On November 14, 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald Benjamin Johnson at Knapp Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm near Annandale, and were blessed with two boys, Carmon and Thomas.
Lorraine was employed in several health positions as general duty nurse, nursery supervisor and in obstetrics. She was a surgery nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and worked with the Red Cross on the polio epidemic in Texas and Minnesota. Lorraine retired from active nursing in 1985. She worked at the Annandale Care Center on the activities staff and volunteered there until 2006.
Lorraine's church family and her faith have always been extremely important in her life. She taught Sunday School for many years and also belonged to WELCA and the Circle at St. John’s. Lorraine enjoyed crocheting, baking, fishing, baby sitting, playing games including Scrabble and doing puzzles. Above all, she cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Thomas of Annandale; daughter-in-law, Denise (Barry) Schultz of Annandale; grandchildren, Kurt (Jessica) Johnson, Michaela Rae (JJ) Johnson, Michelle (Kevin) Johnson, Heather Schultz, Jeremiah Johnson, and Taylor Johnson; five great grandchildren, Bennett, Cole, Charlie, William and Olin; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, Carmon; and siblings, Hannah, Cecelia, Carl, Paul, and Violet.
