John J. Burke age 91, of Annandale, died with his family at his side on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Lakeside Oasis Hospice of Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. Thursday December 13, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Burial will take place in the spring at Caffey Cemetery in Rexton, Michigan. Memorials are preferred to St. Timothy Catholic Church.
John Joseph Burke, Jr. was born November 25, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Eunice (Picconi) Burke. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois. John served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On May 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Derusha in Chicago, Illinois. They lived in Calumet City and Arlington Heights Illinois and Wayzata MN prior to moving to Sugar Lake near Annandale, MN in 1996. John worked in sales for various businesses and he also owned his own travel agency and a window treatment manufacturing business. John was a member of St. Timothy Catholic church in Maple Lake. John had a passion for his work and had a true entrepreneurial spirit. He loved being with his family and adored his wife Shirley for 72 years.
John is survived by his wife Shirley; children Timothy (Donna) of Chaska, Deborah (Gerald) Dikeman of Pine Island and Cindy (Randy) Stevens of Annandale; grandchildren Tim Burke, Chris Waldroff, Kelly Hillman, Sarah Watua, John Dikeman, Rebecca McCreary, Elizabeth Guest, Eric Stevens and Molly Ruud; and fourteen great-grandchildern. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Jim Burke; and sister Betty Meisenheimer.
John’s grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Krista Elsenpeter and Sarah Goelz will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Service of Maple Lake.
