Irene Jans Bergstrom

Irene Jans Bergstrom, age 92, of Annandale, died January 19, 2019 at the Annandale Care Center.

Memorial Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale with Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service on Monday at the church and a fellowship will follow the service.

Irene Caroline Jans Bergstrom was born February 26, 1926 to Heinrich and Frieda (Horning) Boeshans in Beulah, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Kronthal Lutheran Church in Beulah, ND. She graduated from Concordia River Forest with the Class of 1947 with a teaching certificate. She worked as a teacher in St. Paul, at Bethlehem Lutheran School in Middleville Township, and at St. James School in Howard Lake. Irene also worked for 20 years as a Title 1 Assistant at Bendix Elementary School in Annandale. In retirement, she volunteered for several years in the classroom at Bendix as a "grandma". On June 11, 1949, Irene was united in marriage to Roland Jans at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township near Annandale; he preceded her in death in 1976. She was married again on April 28, 1991 at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale to Jerome Bergstrom; he preceded her in death in 1995. Irene enjoyed family, flowers, reading, bird watching and traveling.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Scott) Sweely of Otsego, LaRue (Rev. Thomas) Heyn of Madison, WI, Pamela (Keith) Oie of Wabasha, and Kara (Brian) Smith of Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren, Peter, Joel, Katherine, David, Mark, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Joshua, Rachel, Leah, Amy, Hope and Chad; 10 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Louie (Betty) Boeshans of Osseo, Donald Boeshans of Anoka, Frieda (LeRoy) Evgen of Sturgeon Lake, Marilyn (Gary) Irwin of Ham Lake, and Mark (Liz) Boeshans of Andover. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Roland Jans and Jerome Bergstrom; daughter, Lynn Jans; and seven brothers and sisters.
