Helen Corrine (Happe) Mooney

Helen C. Mooney, age 100, of Maple Lake, died Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at her winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at St. Timothy Catholic Church with Fr. John Meyer as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Timothy’s East Maple Lake at a later time. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake.

Helen Corrine was born April 21, 1918 in Maple Lake, Minnesota to Frank and Gertrude (Jung) Happe. At the age of two, Helen moved with her family to Chicago. They remained there until returning to Maple Lake when Helen was 13 years old. Helen graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1935. On February 4, 1942 she was united in marriage to Clayton Mark Mooney at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. They made Maple Lake their home and raised their 7 children there. Helen was a member of the Maple Lake American Legion Auxiliary, as well as the Foresters. Helen was an avid gardener, which was evident in her gardens around her home and her talents also were enjoyed by the community through the Maple Lake Flower Club. She also liked to crochet and loved to dance and travel. She and Clay enjoyed vacations throughout the U.S., to Europe, Mexico and especially fishing trips to Canada

Helen is survived by her children, Raymond (Gloria) of St. Michael, Alice Shafer of Annandale, Philip (Theresa) of Maple Lake, Patrick (Eileen) of Clear Lake, Loretta (James) Buckholz of Burnsville, and Carmen (Kenneth) Prine of St. Michael; daughter-in-law, Jill Mooney of South Haven; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Gertrude Happe, husband Clay Mooney, son Martin Mooney, granddaughter Jeanette Mooney, and brothers Leo, Philip, Raymond, and Clarence Happe.

Krista Elsenpeter and Sarah Goelz will provide music for the service. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
