Donald H. Preuss, age 95, of Maple Lake, died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, both at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Maple Lake. A prayer service will be led by Dec. Ron Freeman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Donald Herman Preuss was born July 30, 1922 in the Round Lake Township of Jackson County to Henry and Anges (Nissen) Preuss. Don grew up in Round Lake Township. He enlisted in the US Army and served during WWII. On April 22, 1950, Don was united in marriage to Genevieve Kuemper in Worthington. They shared 58 years together until her death in 2008. Don was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 for over 40 years. He worked as a road grader operator with C.S. McCrossen in Osseo for most of his career. Don enjoyed playing cards, taking trips to the casino and in his later years, puzzles. He loved farming; including raising beef cattle; planting, tending and picking corn and pumpkins; and working with his Red Farmall and International tractors. He had pride in his family and enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Don is survived by his four daughters and their spouses Karen & Dave Peterson of South Haven, Sharon & Ken Beise of Buffalo, Lori & Tom Kuschel of Maple Grove and Brenda & Larry Fobbe of Maple Lake; eight grandchildren Tracy and Troy Beise, Trista Beise Conzet, Miranda and Chad Kuschel, Janelle Kolle, Jaime and Craig Fobbe; thirteen great grandchildren Taylor and Kyler Hettwer, Ellalena and Avalyn Meissner, Mckenna, Candence and Emery Maus, Kane, Kalli and Cambry Fobbe, Orin and Cullen Kolle, and Samantha Conzet; sister LaVerda Rathai of Mankato; brothers Duane Burmeister of The Villages, FL and Bill Burmeister of Bullhead City, AZ; sister-in-law Aileen Austrup of Jamestown, ND; and brother-in-law Al Kuemper of Huntsville, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Preuss and Anges Burmeister; step-father William Burmeister; wife Genevieve Preuss; and brothers Harold, Bernell and Marvin Preuss and Bob Burmeister.
Donald's grandchildren will serve as the casket bearers for the service. Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox and Anne Pribyl will provide the music for the service. Military honors will be provided by the Maple Lake American Legion, Maple Lake VFW and the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
