Anna May Carlson, age 94, of Maple Lake, formerly of Minneapolis, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Annandale Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale with Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Burial will follow at Corinna Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, Monday, at the church. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Anna May Carlson was born August 11, 1922 in Highmore, South Dakota to Ole and Mary “Nellie” (Chapman) Cherland. She was baptized on March 23, 1927 in Highmore and was Confirmed in her faith on August 14, 1938 at Edwin American Lutheran Church near Highmore. On April 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Raymond Stanley Carlson in Highmore, SD; their union was blessed with 2 children. They farmed in Highmore until moving to Minneapolis in 1955. Anna May worked with the Minneapolis Park Board and the Minneapolis Public Schools. In 1980, she retired and moved to Maple Lake. Anna May enjoyed quilting, playing cards, baking and completing puzzles.

She is survived by her two children & their spouses Gloria & Rev. Kenneth Tatkenhorst of Monticello and Cliff & Jeri Carlson of Bloomington; three grandchildren & their spouses Paul & Nicole Tatkenhorst, Lori & Steve Steingraber and Leann & Jason Eden; five great grandchildren Jacob, Ryan and Noah Tatkenhorst, David and Timothy Steingraber; and her sister Alice Buchheim of Highmore, SD. Anna May is preceded in death by her parents Ole and Nellie Cherland; husband Raymond Carlson; grandchild Carolee Tatkenhorst; sisters Ellen Olson, Thelma Larson, Hannah Morford and Hattie Cherland; and brothers John and Tilden Cherland.

The casket bearers will be Paul Tatkenhorst, Jacob Tatkenhorst, Jason Eden, Steve Steingraber, John Wisecarver, Dennis Carlson and Richard Carlson. Rev. Kenneth Tatkenhorst and Paul Tatkenhorst will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
