Bruce Grandt Obituary

Bruce C. Grandt, age 72, of South Haven, died unexpectedly on March 18, 2024, at his home with family at his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with Pastor Todd Nelsen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, both at the funeral chapel.

Bruce Calvin Grandt was born November 24, 1951, in Minneapolis to Calvin and Helen (Larson) Grandt. He grew up in Richfield and Minneapolis, graduating from Wayzata High School with the Class of 1970. He continued his education in diesel mechanics. He married Carol Girior in 1971 and moved to Maple Plain to raise their family. They later divorced. Bruce worked for over 25 years for Tonka Equipment Company in Plymouth and was active in the community as a volunteer firefighter with the Maple Plain Fire Department. In 1994, he was united in marriage to Robin Scott in Wayzata. They made their home in Delano until 2005. They lived summers at the family cabin on Clearwater Lake near South Haven and winters in Plymouth until moving to the cabin full-time in 2015.

Bruce was always there to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, running to his garage, better known as "Bruce's hardware store", if anyone needed anything. He loved hunting and fishing. Bruce was active in both bowling and trap-shooting leagues. Living on the lake allowed him to embrace both the joy of taking his grandchildren tubing behind the pontoon and rides on his UTV, and to simply enjoy the serenity of nature to the fullest.

Bruce will be remembered for his kindness, strength, generosity, and his detailed story telling. He will be deeply missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Bruce is survived by his devoted spouse, Robin Grandt; children, Robert Grandt of Lakeville, Brian (Linda) Grandt of Plymouth, Janice (Clint) Larson of Alexandria; bonus children, Brian Scott of Victorville, CA, Terrence (Mary) Scott of Victorville, CA, and Melissa (Troy) Roberts of Delano; grandchildren, Rainyn, Kahlan, Ashley, Cynthia, Addison, Eleanor, Brooklyn, Payten, Samantha, Sofia, Cooper, Brynley, and Bennett; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Veda, and Evelyn; mother-in-law, Joyce Koch; brothers-in-law, Herb (Shelly) Koch and Dale (Sue) Scanlon; aunt, Harriet Hedlund; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Helen Grandt; sisters, Barbara Belleson, Cheryl Grandt, and Cathy Newton; father-in-law, Fritz Koch; and sister-in-law, Rita Scanlon.
