Ronald E. Smith, age 59, of Annandale, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Annandale Care Center, while under hospice care knowing he was loved by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. George Kallumkalkudy as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to the service, both at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

Ronald Edward Smith was born January 30, 1958 to Edward and Betty Jean (Danielowski) Smith in Marshall, Minnesota. Ron grew up in Marshall, where he also attended school, graduating with the Class of 1976. In February of 1977, Ron entered the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served his country for 10 years. On May 4, 1985, Ron was united in marriage to Marcy St. Aubin at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Ron worked in the quality assurance departments for Sanborn Manufacturing in Springfield for 10 years, and for Product Technologies in Maple Lake for 6 years. After his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2002, Ron volunteered for several years at the Annandale Middle School and helped out at Kaz Hardware. Ron gave of his time over the years, as a Boy Scout leader, coaching youth sports, and as a volunteer EMT in Springfield. He enjoyed clowning, walking his dogs, woodworking, hunting, camping, and simply being in the presence of the great outdoors. Above all, Ron cherished the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marcy of Annandale; children, Dustin (Sarah) of Clearwater, Corey of St. Cloud, and Nikky of Clearwater; 2 grandchildren, Drake & Braden; siblings, Deb (Tom) Bringmann of Gilman, IA, Ken Smith of St. Cloud, Laurae (Mike) Hively of Lynd, MN, and Sherry Smith of Gary, SD; mother-in-law & father-in-law, Vince & Lilianna St. Aubin of Marshall; brothers-in-law, Gary (Wendy) St. Aubin of Marshall, Randy (Geneal) St. Aubin of Apple Valley, Daryl (Vicki) St. Aubin of Marshall; sister-in-law, Sue (Scott) Briffett of Marshall; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Smith and Betty Johnson.

Ron’s godchildren Barb Springer, Melissa St. Aubin, Derek Rasmussen, Tori St. Aubin and Adam Smith will serve as urnbearers. Carolyn Wicks and Louisa Nuehring will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
