Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fairhaven with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Milton Leslie Schmidt was born June 2, 1929 in Fairhaven, Minnesota to Vernon and Gertrude (Renken) Schmidt. Milt grew up on the family hobby farm near Fairhaven. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Concordia Lutheran Church. He attended school in Kimball, where he graduated with the Class of 1947. In 1951, Milton entered the United States Air Force, where he honorably served his country for 20 years as a fireman. After serving his first 4 years in the Air Force, Milton and his brother-in-law, Len, tried to pursue a business venture together, but were unable to finalize their plans. Milton then reenlisted and completed 16 additional years of honorable service. On January 14, 1956 Milton was united in marriage to Lucy Joan Gunnerson at Concordia Lutheran Church. Together they lived in various Air Force bases, including bases in New Jersey, Maine, Libya, Africa, and Montana, while raising their 4 children. Upon Milt’s retirement from the Air Force, they moved their family to the Kimball area. Over the years, Milton worked for the Kimball Municipal, Fed Ex, K-Mac and finally retired from Monticello Ford as a parts courier at the age of 65. Milton was a member of the Kimball American Legion, as well as Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder. In his spare time, Milt enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden and lawn. Milt took immense pride in his yard; it was meticulously kept, and a dandelion did not stand a chance in Milton’s presence. Above all, Milton’s family and faith were of the utmost importance to him.

Milton is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucy of Annandale; children, Jeffrey (Emily) Schmidt of Eden Valley, LuAnn Madson of Annandale, Mark (Deb Corbin) Schmidt of Litchfield, Joan (Steve) Murphy of Savage; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Gerri) Schmidt of Watkins, Verble “Audrey” (Len) Huset of French Town, Montana, Valerie (Glen) Kirby of Neosho, Missouri, and Vivian Vadner of South Haven; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Greg, Kevin, Joe, and Todd Gunnerson, and Doug and Charlie Kersten will serve as pallbearers. Lynn Hoff will provide music for the service.
