Mabel A. Schacht Kennedy, age 99, of Watkins, formerly of Kimball, died Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Hilltop Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fairhaven with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Mabel Ann Kennedy was born August 21, 1917 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Carl and Annie (Renken) Blumke. Mabel grew up in the Fairhaven area and attended school at the Fairhaven Country School. On September 14, 1933 Mabel was united in marriage to Albert C. Schacht in Eden Valley, Minnesota. They lived on a farm south of Kimball, where Mabel assisted on the farm while also raising their children. She then went to work at various factories such as Fingerhut in St. Cloud, Fibertech in Cokato, and ABC Awning in Annandale. She also briefly worked at the Met Stadium in Bloomington. Over the years, she Mabel worked as a cook at Raisanens and Rainbow Café in Annandale. She also worked as a housekeeper for lake residents, and eventually worked in the housekeeping departments at the Brainerd Hospital and care center in Watkins. Albert preceded Mabel in death on October 27, 1983. On January 21, 1989 Mabel was united in marriage to Ross M. Kennedy in Milaca. He too preceded Mabel in death on July 30, 1993. In her spare time, Mabel enjoyed baking, was passionate about her flowers, playing cards and dice games, traveling, and decorating for Christmas. Above all, she cherished the time she was able to spend with her family.

Mabel is survived by her daughters, Eva Smith of Kimball, Darlene (Clifford) Hinz of Annandale, Judy (Leslie) Clark of Eden Valley; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; sister, Loretta Hokkala of South Haven; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Mabel was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert & Ross, son Lester in 1936, grandson Randy Smith, great granddaughter Kayla Clark, siblings Lenhard, Alvin, & Harold Blumke, Eleanor Kriedmann and Gertie Stuve, and son-in-law, Sherrill Smith.

Jeff Smith, Blaine Meierhofer, Kirt Hinz, Luke Hinz, Kelly Maurer, and Ryan Schmitz will serve as pallbearers. Terry Smith, Derek Fenske, and Rod Gohmann will serve as honorary pallbearers.
