Keith Longworth Smith, Jr., age 72, of South Haven, died Sunday, August 13, 2017.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Smith family lake home, 10289 Hwy 24, Annandale. Private graveside services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery near Annandale. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.

Keith Longworth Smith, Jr. was born July 23, 1945 in Nashville, Tennessee to Keith and Earle (Pugin) Smith.  Keith grew up in Minneapolis where he graduated from Washburn High School.  He went on to further his education at the University of Minnesota, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics. Keith honorably served our country as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. On March 26, 1977, Keith was united in marriage to Sandy Jones in Minneapolis, where they made their home prior to moving to the South Haven area in 1989. Keith worked for PrimeVest as a financial executive before retiring in 2009. He loved being a pilot, flying and “hangar flying” with his friends. Keith was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Exercise and fitness were an important part of his life; he practiced Shotokan Karate, completed marathons and went to the gym daily. Keith enjoyed reading, music, and fishing.  Above all, Keith treasured the time he was able to spend with his family and friends, especially with his grandson, Asher.

Keith is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandy Jones; daughter & son-in-law, Phoebe Latterell-Smith & Nathan Latterell of Apple Valley; sons, Robert Smith of St. Paul and Andrew Smith of Minneapolis; grandson, Asher Longworth Latterell; siblings, Marion (Dale) Thorne of Minneapolis and Welby Smith of St. Paul; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Keith was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
