     Kathryn E. Helwig, age 84, died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Annandale Care Center.

     A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Hitching Post at Lake Center (10480 State Highway 24 NW), Annandale. A family graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery, Annandale.  In lieu of flowers Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.

     Kathryn Elaine Helwig was born May 8, 1933 in Webster, South Dakota to John and Getta (Berg) Schmitt. Kathryn grew up in Webster, and graduated from Webster High School with the Class of 1951. On January 29, 1953 Kathryn was united in marriage to Leonard John Helwig, Sr. at St. Otto Catholic Church in Webster. Kathryn & Leonard lived in Lily, SD and Browns Valley, MN before moving to Buffalo, MN in 1957. Kathryn worked at the Buffalo National Bank until 1972 when they moved to Annandale. She then went to work for the Annandale and Clearwater State Bank until her retirement in 1987. In 1987, they moved to Las Vegas, before moving back to Minnesota in 2002 to be closer to their grandchildren. In her spare time, Kathryn enjoyed attending her children’s swimming, volleyball, football, wrestling, hockey, track & field, baseball, cross country and dancing events, sewing matching dresses for her daughters, knitting sweaters, crocheting, playing Bridge, listening to Big Band music, Roger Whittaker, Jim Nabors, Josh Groban and Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion.

     Kathryn is survived by her children, Cynthia (Bill) Piram of Annandale, Corinne (Craig) Stenzel of Minneapolis, Colleen (Brent) Belston of Columbia Falls, MT, Leonard Jr. (Linda) of Monticello, Daniel (Cheryl) of Rogers, Charles (Kristin) of Maple Lake, Janet (Kent) Peterson of Menomonie, WI, and Cooper (Samantha) of Bemidji; sister, Carol (Gary) Nelson of Aberdeen, SD; 20 grandchildren, Jacob, Rachelle, Stefanie and Matthew Piram, Malea, Jamie and Ted Stenzel, Clayton Cook, Bridget, Alex, and Kristine Helwig, Elizabeth and Emily Helwig, Carmen and Sam Peterson, Katie and Cuyler Helwig, Cole, Caitlyn and Aiden Helwig; 14 great grandchildren. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sr., brother, John Peter Schmitt, and special friend, Earl Purcell.  Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
