James F. Vollmer, age 88, of Annandale died Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Buffalo Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as celebrant.  Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Assembly Area 2.

James Frederick Vollmer was born on March 6, 1924 to George and Mildred (Mockler) Vollmer in Stillwater.  He grew up in Stillwater with his three sisters and one brother.  He served his country in England during World War II with the 8th Army Air Force.  After his military service, Jim moved back to Stillwater where he fell in love and married Mae Lamere on October 12, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stillwater.  Together, they had eight children whom they raised in Bayport.

Jim was an active member of the Bayport Hesley Jensen American Legion Post 491 and the Stillwater Knights of Columbus. He worked for Hercules Manufacturing for many years, retiring in 1986.  After retiring, Jim and Mae moved to McAllen, TX for 18 years before moving to Annandale in 2007 to be closer to their family.

Jim is survived by his wife Mae; eight children Midge (Mark) Mohler of Bemidji, James Jr. of Austin, TX, Mary Jo Bruggeman of Thief River Falls, George (LeAnn) of Montgomery, TX, John (partner Ken Itasaka) of Kanagawa-Ken Sagamihara-Shi, Japan, Paul (Nancy) of Stacy, Laurie (Mike) Hankee of Annandale and Peter (LeAnn) of Spring, TX; three sisters Margaret Lentsch of Cottage Grove, Fran Mack of Stillwater and Ruth Miller of Lakeland; brother Dick (Gloria) of Dresser, WI; 26 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents George and Mildred; grandson Timothy Vollmer; son-in-law Daniel Bruggeman; daughter-in-law Maria Vollmer; and brothers-in-law Jack Lentsch, Leo Mack and Joe Miller.

Urn bearers will be David Anderson and Marti Powers.  Honorary urn bearers will be the rest of Jim's grandchildren.  Music will be provided by the Resurrection Choir.  Military honors will be provided by the Ft. Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad.  Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake.
