Herbert J. Thompson, age 76, of Mounds View passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly April 6, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis with his family by his side.  He battled emphysema most of his life and fought bravely and valiantly against lung cancer since 2008.  He is now at peace, without pain and breathing easily in Heaven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Luxemburg with Fr. Roger Thoennes as the Celebrant.  Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Mary Hall located next door to the church.

Herbert John Thompson was born April 20, 1938 at the St. Cloud Hospital to John “Jack” and Mary (Parent) Thompson.  He graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud with the Class of 1957.  Herb served his county with the U.S. Army in the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Armored Cavalry in Western Germany.  On June 30, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Fuchs at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Brighton.  He was a long time fork lift operator for Honeywell in Arden Hills.  Herb enjoyed baseball, playing cards, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 45 years Mary; two daughters Sonia (Dennis) Thoreson of Andover and Cheryl (Luis) Giron of Fridley; three grandchildren Ciarah and Karissa Thoreson and Zachary Giron; two step grandchildren Bailey and Miguel Giron; and four brothers Ray (Shirley) of Rice, Mark (Judy) of Ramsey, Harold (Mary Kay) of Waite Park and Jerry of Tallahassee, FL.
