Daniel Lekander, age 74, of Kingston Township, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Ostmark Lutheran Church, Watkins, with Rev. Joe Midthun officiating. Burial will follow at Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball and one hour prior to the service, Thursday, at the church.
Daniel James Anthony Lekander was born January 27, 1943 in Minneapolis to James and Elma (Luoma) Lekander. He was baptized in Minneapolis and confirmed at Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston. Daniel grew up in Kingston and graduated from Kimball High School with the Class of 1961. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Danny worked as a truck driver, road grader, farm hand and as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was great at cooking, baking, gardening and sewing. Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, refurbishing saddles, and watching his favorite daytime TV shows. He had a love for people and the conversations he had with them.
Daniel is survived by his son Lukus Lekander of Kingston; sisters Grace (Lloyd) Norgren of Annandale, Sandra (George) Weers of Marietta, GA, and Jane Westrup of South Haven; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Glendale Lekander; and sisters Annabell Huro, Donna Knickerbocker, Jeanette Lekander and Ruth Waataja.
The urn bearers will be Neil Knickerbocker, Scott Waataja, Keith Westrup and Lee Norgren. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Kimball.
