Betty A. Gunnary, age 84, of Annandale, died Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Annandale Care Center.

    Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, French Lake with Rev. Edward Groop officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

    Betty A. Gunnary was born June 21, 1932 in Lake Prairie Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota to George and Esther (Rosenfeld) Schauer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Minnesota. Betty grew up on the family farm near St. Peter, where she attended District 40 country school in Nicollet County through the 8th grade. She graduated from high school in St. Peter with the Class of 1950. Betty furthered her education at Mankato State Teacher’s College (now Minnesota State University Mankato) with a Bachelor of Science degree before completing her Masters from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. On December 28, 1968 Betty was united in marriage to Thomas Gunnary at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Her teaching career spanned over 37 ½ years. She taught elementary school in Truman, Hutchinson, Fairmont and Hopkins, before spending her last 20 years in education at the Annandale School District. Betty enjoyed teaching very much and dedicated her life to it. She officially retired in 1990. Over the years, Betty remained active in her church, Our Saviour’s Lutheran near French Lake.  She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a society for women educators, as well as the Christian Women’s Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, genealogy, flower gardening and hosting family gatherings & holiday celebrations.  Most of all she loved being with family.

    Betty is survived by her brother David (Helen) Schauer of Mesa, AZ; sister Marion (John) Pino of Indiana, PA; nephews Mark, Scott & Brad Schauer and Joe Pino; nieces Cathy & Sue Pino; seven great nieces & nephews as well as many other members of the Gunnary family.
