Albert W. Mattila, age 93, of Annandale died Sunday, November 15, 2015, at the Annandale Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, French Lake, Minnesota with Rev. Edward Groop officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Albert William Mattila was born November 11, 1922 in Albion Township to John and Amalia (Lukkarila) Mattila . He was a lifelong resident of Annandale and graduated from Annandale High School in 1942. He married Caroline Hentges on January 23, 1943. He raised his family on the Mattila dairy farm homestead in Albion Township. Albert enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards with friends, and spending time with his family.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Caroline; children Carol (Ernie) Smith; Roger (Helen) Mattila; Mischelle (Greg) Howard; grandchildren Kevin (Denise) Smith; Susie (Dan) Gazett; Heidi (Kurt) Erickson; April (Jeremy) Adams; Tiffany (Matt) Wheatley; Amy Howard, Grant Howard; great grandchildren Brandon (Jessica) Smith, Justin Smith, Jacob Gazett, Hunter and Kody Erickson, Hailey Adams, Ethan and Liam Wheatley, and great-great grandson Brody Smith. He was preceded in death by sisters Elvira (Rudy) Anderson, Ellen (Eric) Torrance, Mayme (Edward) Dorma; Tyyne (Carl) Saari, brothers John (Roby) Mattila, Leonard (Marion) Mattila, Edward (Agnes) Mattila, Henry (Dorothy) Mattila, and Emil (Alice) Mattila.
Roger Mattila, Kevin Smith, Brandon Smith, Justin Smith, Hunter Erickson, Cody Erickson, and Jacob Gazett will serve as pallbearers and Grant Howard will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Margaret Groop will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
